Move Well Work Well for Workers

When we move often and use good body mechanics, we reduce our risk of developing an MSI and remain productive, comfortable and healthy.

WorkplaceNL encourages all workers to learn about MSIs and find practical solutions for prevention during Move Well Work Well Week and all year round.

Here are some easy actions for workers to get started with MSI prevention.

Find out if you are at risk

With some MSIs, signs and symptoms develop gradually and seem insignificant at first. Don’t ignore those warning signs. Take action before it becomes a serious injury.

Some common warning signs include:

• Aches and pain
• Tenderness
• Heaviness
• Tightness
• Numbness

• Tingling
• Burning
• Swelling
• Stiffness or loss of joint movement
• Weakness or tired feeling in affected area

Report early warning signs to your supervisor – it is essential that, together, you identify and manage risk factors as soon as possible to avoid long-term injury.

Take care of you

Ergonomics is the science of making things comfortable and safe for people to use. It helps us choose furniture, tools and workspaces so they fit our bodies and do not cause pain or injury.

For example:

• A chair that supports your back and arms.
• A computer screen at the right height helps avoid neck pain.
• Taking breaks to move around keeps your body healthy when you work in one position too long.

Workplaces that have good ergonomics have fewer MSIs. Click here to check out our online library of ergonomics resources to help you prevent MSIs at work.

Champion change

WorkplaceNL offers the annual Move Well Work Well Week event to engage, educate and find practical solutions to prevent MSIs. This comes with a toolkit of resources to host an event in any workplace.

We encourage workers to take safety in their own hands by sharing the opportunity to participate in this event with their supervisors, co-workers and OHS committees.
