Move Well – Work Well: Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention (MSIP) Week

Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention (MSIP) Week is now Move Well – Work Well. Move Well – Work Well from September 20 to 26, 2020.

Musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) are painful disorders of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, spinal discs, and related soft tissues. MSIs include repetitive strain and overexertion injuries like sprains, strains, and inflammation that may be caused or aggravated by work. 

Move Well – Work Well is a week devoted to raising awareness of these injuries and finding practical solutions for prevention in workplaces. MSIs account for the majority of lost time claims and costs in Newfoundland and Labrador workplaces.  

The Move Well – Work Well slogan is new for 2020, and will be used for MSIP Week moving forward. Move Well – Work Well reminds us that when we move (instead of being sedentary or staying in one position for prolonged periods) and move well (good body mechanics, reduced force on soft tissues), it results in us being well and working well (productive, comfortable, healthy, reduced risk of MSI). When we move well at work, it means we are working well.

WorkplaceNL marks Move Well – Work Well week by organizing MSI awareness and prevention activities for its employees. We encourage other organizations to do the same.
