WorkplaceNL launches Safety Leadership Awards

St. John’s, NL – WorkplaceNL announced its new WorkplaceNL Safety Leadership Awards to recognize employers and workers who demonstrate leadership and a visible commitment to health and safety in workplaces in Newfoundland and Labrador. Nominations are open from August 25 to September 23, 2022.

The WorkplaceNL Safety Leadership Award for Employers recognizes businesses and organizations in the community that support injury prevention through their leadership, health and safety programming and overall workplace safety culture.

The WorkplaceNL Safety Leadership Award for Workers acknowledges workers in the community who practice health and safety in completing work tasks, contribute to making their workplaces safe and positively influence safety culture.

“Our province has an abundance of strong leaders in occupational health and safety within businesses and organizations who work tirelessly to put the health and safety of employees at the forefront,” said the Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister Responsible for Labour. “I encourage the public to submit nominations in recognition of the work they do.”

“We look forward to celebrating safety leaders who are making an impact by creating safe workplaces in our community, and to share their stories,“ said Dennis Hogan, CEO, WorkplaceNL. “Passionate leaders contribute to Newfoundland and Labrador having one of the lowest lost-time workplace injury rates in the country. Safety as a workplace culture requires all levels of an organization to collaborate, that is why we recognize both organizations and workers as safety leaders.”

The awards will be presented at the upcoming annual WorkplaceNL Health and Safety Learning Symposium.
