WorkplaceNL celebrates Move Well – Work Well Week from September 20-26

St. John’s, NL – Musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs), or soft-tissue injuries, account for almost 70 per cent of the lost-time injury claims at WorkplaceNL over the past five years.

Move Well – Work Well is a week (September 20 – 26, 2020) devoted to raising awareness of these injuries and finding practical solutions for preventing them from happening at work.

“The Move Well – Work Well slogan is new for 2020, and will be used for Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention Week moving forward,” said WorkplaceNL CEO Dennis Hogan. “It reminds us that when we move instead of being sedentary, and move well by using good body mechanics, we stay healthy, productive and comfortable in our work and home lives.”

On average, MSI’s in Newfoundland and Labrador account for:

  • 67 per cent of all claims involving lost time from work
  • 71 per cent of all costs related to lost-time claims
  • 77 per cent of all lost-time weeks from work
  • $90 million in annual claims costs

Musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) are disorders of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, spinal discs, and related soft tissues. MSIs include repetitive strain and overexertion injuries like sprains, strains, and inflammation that may be caused or aggravated by work.
