WorkplaceNL’s releases its 2026-28 Strategic Plan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WorkplaceNL’s releases its 2026-28 Strategic Plan

St. John’s, NL – WorkplaceNL’s 2026-28 Strategic Plan has been tabled with the House of Assembly. Guided by this plan, WorkplaceNL will implement targeted, measurable initiatives over the next three years to prevent injury, help workers return to work and modernize its client service delivery. Specific goals are in the backgrounder below.

Newfoundland and Labrador has one of the lowest lost-time injury rates in the country – at 1.2 lost-time injuries per 100 workers in 2024. WorkplaceNL will continue to focus on preventing as many workplace injuries as possible through targeted initiatives for workplaces with the highest risk of workplace injuries.

Should there be an injury, WorkplaceNL acknowledges the impact on the worker, their family and their employer. WorkplaceNL will focus on improving return-to-work planning and addressing barriers to recovery and return to work.

Through periodic surveys, WorkplaceNL measures client service satisfaction rates among employers to whom it provides no-fault, insurance coverage and among workers who receive benefits after an injury. Employers are asking for access to more information and workers are asking for more access to WorkplaceNL staff. WorkplaceNL will continue to modernize its processes and technologies to meet their evolving expectations.

In early 2025, WorkplaceNL consulted with stakeholders and the public to gather feedback on priorities and used that input to develop this 2026-28 strategic plan. WorkplaceNL extends our sincerest appreciation to all those who participated.

“WorkplaceNL’s 2026-28 Strategic Plan puts the workers and employers of our province first. It builds on momentum to prevent injuries, help workers get back to the connections and routines of work as well as modernize how we serve workers and employers to meet their evolving expectations,” said John Peddle, Chair of the Board of Directors, WorkplaceNL. “We are moving forward together – workers, employers and our many safety partners – and we sincerely appreciate their continued collaboration and feedback to help us continue to build safe workplaces and a strong, sustainable, no-fault workplace injury compensation system for our province.”

“Today marks an important step forward for WorkplaceNL. Our 2026-28 Strategic Plan reflects what we heard from workers, employers and partners across the province,” said Elizabeth Lane, CEO, WorkplaceNL. “We have a clear, measurable path to prevent injuries, strengthen return-to-work outcomes and modernize our processes. I am proud of the collaboration behind this plan and look forward to what we will achieve together over the next three years.”
