Workplace Violence Risk Assessment: An Overview

Assaults and violent acts are increasing in Newfoundland and Labrador workplaces. Workplace violence can include physical force, threatening statements or other actions that gives a worker a reason to believe that they are at risk of injury. Those working alone or in isolation are at higher risk, including those in the health care, taxi and retail industries.

Employers have a legislative responsibility to ensure the health and safety of their workers. They must assess the risk of a potential violent act occurring in the workplace, identify the hazards and implement ways to ensure their workers stay safe.
