To standardize and improve traffic control training across the province, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, OHS Division (Service NL) and WorkplaceNL have changed the Traffic Control Persons (TCP) training requirements. As of January 2020, there are two levels of certification training, TCP Level I and TCP Level II. Learning outcomes for both levels are outlined in the revised TCP Certification Training Standard.
To instruct TCP Level I, approved trainers must have delivered a minimum of two TCP certification training courses in 2019 and complete a course content review session.. Session dates and locations include:
- January 29, 2020, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Labrador, Two Seasons Hotel
- January 31, 2020, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. St. John’s, Capital Hotel
- February 3, 2020, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Corner Brook, Greenwood Hotel
- February 4, 2020, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Grand Falls-Windsor, Mount Peyton Hotel
- February 6, 2020, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. St. John’s, Capital Hotel

Any individuals interested in obtaining WorkplaceNL TCP trainer approval for the TCP Level I or TCP Level II certification training course but not currently certified to deliver TCP training, must complete the applicable course content review session and pass a WorkplaceNL trainer assessment(s).
As of March 31, 2020, the standardized WorkplaceNL curriculum must be used to teach TCP certification training courses. During the transition period, approved TCP trainers may continue to use their existing curriculum.
